The Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC) is seeking a Donor Services Associate in our Charlottesville, VA office. This individual will join our Development Operations team and report to our Development Information Manager. The Donor Services Associate will ensure accurate and timely processing of donations, maintain data integrity, and deliver exceptional donor services. The ideal candidate will coordinate donation logistics in Salesforce, manage and resolve donor inquiries through exemplary customer service, and serve as the primary liaison with SELC’s broker about stock transfers and stock gifts. The position manages data hygiene, deduplication processes, and supports donor engagement initiatives while providing operational assistance as needed.
SELC has a hybrid work model that offers employees flexibility to work remotely up to two days per week.
Employment is contingent on successful completion of a criminal background check.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Coordinates the processing, documentation and acknowledgment of donations in Salesforce and electronic files according to established protocols.
- Manages and resolves donor inquiries and issues, providing exemplary customer service and stewardship.
- Serves as the primary liaison with SELC’s broker about stock transfers, tracks progress of stock gifts, and communicates with relevant Finance and Development staff regarding these gifts.
- Coordinates with Human Resources team to update staff information in Salesforce.
- Collaborates with the Annual Giving and Individual Giving teams as well as the Communications department to support campaigns, mailings, events, and donor engagement initiatives.
- Manages returned mail and address updates.
- Manages deduplication processes.
- Supports the Operations team with additional tasks as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum one year of relevant professional experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Word and Excel.
- Ability to handle confidential information with sensitivity, integrity, and accuracy.
- Reliability, responsiveness, and courtesy in all team and donor interactions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-driven with excellent time management skills.
- Collegial and collaborative team player.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with Salesforce NPSP preferred.
- Experience in nonprofit fundraising experience is strongly preferred.
- Connection to the people and places of the South.

Compensation & Benefits:
SELC offers salaries competitive with other leading environmental nonprofits nationally and provides an excellent benefits package. The wage range for this full-time and nonexempt position is $28.00/hour – $33.00/hour, based on experience. The annualized equivalent is approximately $58,240 – $68,640, assuming full-time hours. SELC is a PSLF (Public Service Loan Forgiveness) eligible employer.
All employees are required to reside in our region. SELC will provide relocation reimbursement up to a specific dollar amount for those relocating at least 50 miles from their current primary residence.
